After 25 years in the design industry, Patti knew how to work hard. She had built a successful business through creativity, dedication, and years of experience. But as she entered a new season of life as an empty nester, she realized that working harder wasn’t creating the results she wanted.
Her days were filled with client work, emails, tasks, and responsibilities, but she often ended the day feeling like she had been busy without making meaningful progress. She found herself rewriting to-do lists, spending hours on projects, and constantly reinventing her workflow instead of moving her business forward.
Patti knew she was talented at her work, but she also knew she needed a better system in order to thrive.
This season of both work and life brought exciting changes. Her children were building lives of their own, getting married, and starting families. She wanted the flexibility to enjoy watching her kids step into adulthood and make memories with future grandchildren, while also continuing to grow a business she loved.
The challenge was figuring out how to create that balance.
When Patti came to The Proper Place, we started by looking at the big picture. What did she want her business to look like? What parts of her work energized her? What was taking up time without moving her forward? What strengths could she use to be more efficient?
Together, we worked through her workflow, calendar, paper processes, and business systems. We created more structure around her day-to-day operations and identified areas where technology (and people!) could help her work more efficiently. Some of those tools felt intimidating at first, but with encouragement, guidance, and accountability, Patti learned how to use them to support her business instead of feeling overwhelmed by them.
One of the biggest shifts came when Patti gained clarity around who she wanted to serve and how she wanted to position her business. By narrowing her focus and creating a clear direction, she was able to spend more time on the right activities—building her business, serving the clients she truly enjoyed, and creating new opportunities for growth. No more spinning her wheels and juggling unnecessary tasks.
Today, Patti has a clearer plan for her days, more confidence in her systems, and the freedom to focus on both her business and the people she loves. She’s creating space for the things that matter—whether that’s growing revenue, spending time with family, enjoying her health and hobbies, or simply having margin in her week.
“Michelle is a master! She has helped me focus and be way more productive in my business by finding out how I can work best within my specific situation and personality! Love her!” -Patti, business owner and empty nester
And the journey continues.
Patti and I continue to meet for accountability, problem-solving, and navigating the challenges that naturally come with running a business. Because even successful business owners need someone in their corner—someone to help them think through decisions, create solutions, and keep moving forward. I love being on her business (and life) support team!
