It’s the second “New Year” of the year! Summer schedules are wrapping up, and ever since kindergarten, we’ve been programmed to reboot our lives in the middle of August. I’m surely not the only one who feels like I need to get back to better eating habits, consistent exercise, and tackling some bigger work projects. I will miss the long daylight hours, but now is the perfect time to transition to consistent schedules, fresh routines, and re-focus.
It doesn’t have to be complicated. These are the easy actions you can implement to reset after summer (or at any time of the year!).

Morning Routine
TIME FOR YOU
A great day starts with self care – reading, prayer, fitness, etc. Get up on time to invest in the internal body before the external demands take priority.
PLAN FOR MARGIN
Unexpected things hijack our schedule – spilled coffee, outfit dilemmas, traffic, forgotten papers – plan for a 10-minute buffer to absorb any issues.
Evening Routine
PREP FOR TOMORROW
Every smooth morning starts the night before. Lay out clothes, make lunches if you go to school/office, prep work/school bags, and create a game plan for dinner. Do you need to thaw anything or prep the crockpot?
WRAP UP THE DAY
Spend ten minutes resetting the house, putting items away, and clearing the counters. Don’t let today’s mess linger into tomorrow. It’s amazing to wake up to less clutter!
Method of Planning
WEEKLY
One day a week write out all the must-do’s and have-to’s. Consider your appointments and multiple schedules. Take into account meal planning, groceries, etc. Taking time to sit down and plan saves you time during the week.
DAILY
Use a calendar and a simple to-do list. Marry the two so you can anticipate your deadlines and plan efficiently.
Start the day by writing down the three top tasks that need to get accomplished. Do the dreaded or most pressing one immediately. Getting that accomplished right away will fuel the energy for the rest of the morning.
Self-Care
No one takes care of your body except for you. What do you need to implement for your wellness? Fitness routine, eating habits, reading, coffee dates. If you don’t schedule it, it doesn’t happen!
For me, it’s definitely time to get back to the basics and implement discipline in my weekdays, for both my work and home life. What about you?
