Importance of creating a team even when you work alone

I love working for myself, but I miss having a team to source ideas and energy, and share the workload. There are so many benefits to working for yourself, but you are missing the one thing that offers you success: a built-in support system. A team of support can keep your productivity up and your mental stability on par. By not having a team of support you may be leaving precious resources and benefits on the table!

Even when you work for yourself, you can be a part of a team!

What’s a team?

A team is comprised of people who support each other, route for each other, and work toward the same goal. When you work for yourself, you have to build a non-traditional looking team of support around you.

Benefits of a team

When you intentionally add people to your team, you are optimizing your skillset and you have confidence that your business isn’t lacking any resources or roles. For example, you may be the accountant, marketer, administrator, and face of the business, but is it the best use of your time and resources? Add people to your team (i.e. outsource jobs) that can be done by others who are experts in that arena.

I don’t know any successful solopreneurs who have conquered “doing it all” and still have boundaries between work, self-care, and personal life. When you have your own business, the work is never done. But, when you have others in your corner, they can help hold you accountable and alleviate the workload so your energy is spent in the essential places.

Who should be on your team?

Most likely there will be paid and unpaid people on your team. For example, having an accountability partner, mastermind group, and/or coach can truly transform your mindsets and productivity level. A bookkeeper, virtual assistant, or social media guru are great examples of people who can take tasks off your plate and increase your earning potential.

Unusual “members” would be resources you can tap into, such as Canva, QuickBooks, productivity apps, and the savvy podcast in your queue. The more support the better for your bottom line and mental energy!

Additionally, professionals such as business and life coaches are valuable tools for your team. Similar to how enlisting a personal trainer helps you reach your goals – you aren’t as consistent in your self-care if you don’t have an expert or guide to support your goals.

Because team members are people who are routing for you, consider family and close friends as sounding boards or someone to be a guinea-pig for a new service. Bringing those you love into your circle is an invaluable tool!

You don’t have to do it alone! And you can be more successful with others around you.

Creating a support system is crucial to your overall personal and professional growth.  Be intentional to identify your team and continue to add to it as you find success. It will not only build your productivity, but more importantly, your emotional health. We are better with others on our side!
